Coffee Supreme Retail Store

A flagship retail store for a longstanding client, this project extended themes developed on previous Bureaux and Coffee Supreme collaborations – the interplay of finely crafted bespoke elements within a industrial heritage shell; and using just a few materials of excellent quality and texture, in this case solid oak and black tubular steel, to make the beans, coffee machines and related paraphernalia pop.

In a restored historic police building, with all interior walls painted a crisp white, the checkerboard butcher’s block counters, open shelves, coffee bean hoppers and ladder convey charm and hospitality like a contemporary version of an apothecary. This is, however, not traditional retail – space flows around several islands, around which both staff and customers stand shoulder-to-shoulder, exchanging information about brewing and roasting techniques. There are retro-styled Dutch filter machines, Chemex carafes from America and Japanese mugs on the shelf, but this precision fit-out perfectly represents the values of an original Kiwi coffee company.
