Waiheke Island House
This weekend and holiday home provides a place for active lives to be lived by the water. A boatshed, constructed from concrete colour-matched to the beach sands and recessed into the sloping embankment, is the epicentre for beachside activity, while the house provides the requisite opportunities for sun, shade, views and shelter, front or back, depending on the elements.
This design is a modern twist on an ‘encampment’. The central pavilion a sheltering ‘canopy’ between gabled wings, one containing the master bedroom, travertine-lined bathrooms and guest rooms, the other a bunkroom and entertainment room. Throughout, the idea of sheltered and comfortable seaside living is achieved through colours, materials and textures that reference the incredible landscape, and a seamless interior ‘fit’ is achieved through bespoke furniture and cabinetry.
